From 100% Malbec; bright violet with deep purple hues; baked blackberries and plums, wet Woolard Vineyard in Sonoma Valley. 20 months in 50% French and 50% American oak. About 35% new oak. The Woolard Vineyard is on Melida Road about 100 yards north of Highway 12. He grows Cabernet and Malbec. It's a prolific vineyard and produces between 4 to 5 tons per acre. This malbec is a deep purple-red but tends to have a bright magenta rim. Fruit flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum with coffee, molasses and tobacco on the nose.

Malbec in the US is planted mainly in California, Oregon and Washington. Less than a total of 3500 acres are planted in these three states. Malbec was common as a blending grape in Bordeaux.

Malbec pairs well with earthy meats like duck, lamb, pork shoulder, dark meat poultry and beef brisket. Also good with funky flavors like blue cheese.
